Flashback Friday

Flashback Friday...
This past year we were given the gift of friends and the gift of time with family and friends that we normally never have. We were thinking back about all of the things we were blessed with this past year and how great it was to be able to spend so much time with the ones we love.

This was the first time that all of the Flight 21 families at ACSC had met. We had dinner together one night to get to know everyone. Never did I think what great friends we all would be at the end.

We tried to continue the fun at our house when our favorite season, college football season, came around last Fall. We watched quite a few games together.

And we played quite a few games together! Volleyball that is....
What started out as just intramural sports, became a group Friday ritual. We played volleyball (or walleyball when it was too cold or raining outside) every Friday and then went to dinner that night. We would play for hours! We miss those fun times!

I got to see my Grandmother who I had not seen in years. I don't make it to Kentucky like I should. So, I was even able to see her last year and celebrate her birthday with her and the family.

And celebrate my Dad's 50th birthday! You can't tell in this picture, but they had him sitting in a wheelchair. It was a great weekend and a great surprise party for him.

Tom and Brandy went to the one and only Auburn vs Alabama game in Tuscaloosa. I have a hunch that by the time Ethan graduates from the University of Alabama, Tom just might be able to mumble "RollTide!" Isn't there a Bible verse that says, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." ?? haha

No one can forget how brave Quincy and Heather were. Quincy needed a kidney and his mother supplied it. It was truly amazing how fast they recovered! Heather started training for a half-marathon one month after her surgery! So proud....

Soon after Quincy's surgery, we were back at UAB for Mary Kathryn's surgery to remove the tumors from her mouth. It was such a scary time. But, we all hung in there together and thankfully found that the tumors were not cancerous. We did, however, find out that she has a rare condition called Gorlin's syndrome. So, please keep her in your prayers and that pray her symptoms will be minimal. My little sister is the sweetest girl I know!

My friends all joined us for my 31st birthday. We went to dinner and then celebrated with cake at the Laing's. Fun times!

Tom, Kelly, Cash, Brandy, and Tom's brother all went out to the house we own on 10 acres in Troy and had some all day target shooting with all of their guns. Apparently they had a blast...

And once again...the Country Music Marathon. We had so much fun doing our long runs together every Saturday. I miss my running partners! Tom and Kelly were too fast to have running partners, so I'm sure they miss the Saturday breakfast at IHOP and Cracker Barrel.

It was also great being able to be there for the birth of our daughter's first child, Dylan. He was born on Sept 6, 2008. She will be having another boy, Destin, this October. Hopefully we will be able to be there for that as well. We enjoyed spending time with Amy and getting to celebrate her 20th birthday with her in May.

I was able to eat lunch every week with my best friend Kay. I cherished every minute. We've been best friends since I was 10. I'm so glad I was there for your big 30th birthday and all of the fun times we had this past year. Thank you for all of them!

We even went fishing at Randall & Edna's place at the lake in Georgia. (Tom's parents)

Fishing is not particularly my thing, but we enjoyed ourselves and it was the time we spent together that mattered.

I was also able to spend some good times with my brother and Lorie

quite a bit. Things just seem to be working out well for them now. They just bought their first house and Josh just got an awesome new job. Congrats!

Ethan even graduated from high school this year. Not that it was ever in question! I just can't believe that he is so grown up now and no longer the little boy he was when I first met him. He is off to U of A to do great things!
Last, but never least...I was so glad to be able to be there with my Grandmother Lloyd and our family when she had her cancer removed. She's about to finish her last round of chemo soon and has done so well. She is such an inspiration and a trooper! I don't think she would appreciate me posting a picture of her doing chemo, so I'll post a good one later.

Thank you everyone for this past year together! Things are already back to the way they were...busy with work...so we are hoping that we will do a better job of keeping in touch. We miss you guys already!
